Holistic healthMood, sleep and stress load.
Mood is a matter for your doctor or a mental health professional. Sleep, stress load and energy are the parts a chiropractic office can honestly talk about.
What to know first
- Mood itself belongs with your doctor or a mental health professional, not this office.
- Chronic stress, poor sleep, and certain medical conditions can all affect mood.
- Lasting longer than a couple of weeks or affecting daily life are signs to get help.
- Neck pain tied to stress or poor sleep is something we can examine.
- Call or text 988, or call 911, if you are in crisis.
What people usually mean.
Feeling flat. Short-tempered over small things. Wound up and unable to settle. Foggy and slow to think. Most people who raise this describe a stretch where they feel unlike themselves, and it often arrives alongside poor sleep, a heavy stress load, and low energy. That cluster is common, and it is also worth taking seriously rather than waiting to see if it passes on its own.
What commonly affects mood.
Ongoing stress is one of the most common contributors, whether from work, finances, caregiving, or a hard season at home. Poor or broken sleep is closely tied to mood and can make small frustrations feel much larger. Grief and major life changes play a role too. So do recognized conditions such as depression and anxiety disorders, and medical issues including thyroid problems, chronic pain, and side effects from certain medications. In many people, several of these overlap at once, which is part of why mood problems are rarely explained by a single cause.
What the signs typically look like.
Everyone has a bad week now and then, and that is different from a mood problem that needs attention. The signs worth noticing are duration and effect. Low mood, anxiety, or irritability that has lasted more than a couple of weeks, that keeps getting worse, or that is affecting your work, sleep, appetite, or relationships has crossed from a rough patch into something to bring to a professional. Thoughts of hopelessness or of harming yourself are always a reason to reach out immediately.
What a professional typically checks.
A primary care doctor or a mental health professional will usually start by asking how long you have felt this way, how it is affecting your daily life, and whether anything changed around when it started. Screening questionnaires are common and help put a number on how significant the symptoms are. Blood work is sometimes used to rule out physical contributors like thyroid problems or anemia. From there, treatment might include counseling, medication, or both, decided between you and that professional.
What you can reasonably do next.
Talk to your doctor or a mental health professional. That is the right door for how you have been feeling, and going through it early tends to work better than waiting for it to pass. If cost or access is a concern, your primary care doctor can often point you toward options, including telehealth counseling.
Make an appointment with your doctor or a mental health professional if low mood, anxiety or irritability has lasted more than a couple of weeks, is getting worse, or is affecting your work, sleep or relationships. Go sooner if it started after a head injury, after a change in medication, or alongside symptoms like a racing heart, weight change or heavy fatigue, since those need a medical workup. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 in the United States, or call 911.
What Boss Chiropractic actually does here.
Boss Chiropractic is a chiropractic office. We examine and treat mechanical problems in the spine and joints. People carrying a heavy stress load often hold their shoulders and jaw tight, and that shows up as neck pain and headaches, which is something we can examine and treat. Mood itself is not. An adjustment does not change how you feel, and we make no claim that it does. If pain is one of the things wearing you down, that piece is ours to look at. Everything else on this page points somewhere better qualified than a chiropractic office.
Boss Chiropractic has served Sterling Ridge and The Woodlands since 2001. You can read how we think about this whole area on our holistic health and wellness page, or contact us with a question before you book.

This page is general information, not medical advice. What is right for you depends on your exam. Dr. Boss will tell you straight whether we can help, and where to go if we cannot.
The pain part is the part we examine.
If your back or neck is breaking your sleep, come in and find out whether it is mechanical.
